Old Friend
Good-bye! My dear old friend,
Maybe somewhere, we will meet again,
Our companionship stood the toils of time,
No longer will you endure life's regime.
Forty years, plus two, we were mates,
Enjoyed life's pleasures, and did celebrate,
Those years have passed, just as a blink,
I clasp my glass, and to your memory I drink.
As they laid you down to rest,
Of my friends, you were one of the best,
No more will we correspond by mail,
For time has driven in that final nail.
