Christmas spirit

We met on the corner
you was cold; and un-speaking
we walked for a while,
I begged a reason
for your hush,
but no words, follow you.

The eve of Christmas,
you should be a-glow,
but only my footsteps
trail the snow.

Every Christmas eve
we walked this way
but those footsteps
are from yesterday.
