Glass bends to reveal
a starlet of a tear, a bud
sheds all its color to ignite
the pure flame of itself,
sliding down
the dawn express,
the pitched motion, a snuggled curl
driven, even known.
I tried to bottle up
what was broken, jolted
by tears, I flew into a rage
then hurled into apologies,
so quickly the space between me and
you
scarred,
things we had preserved for so long,
possessing of no home,
can it be that we tried
too awfully hard to begin again?
We tried to ride the bends of the glass,
compromise, construct new roads
where we could be
with each other,
knowing the place as only we could
know it and yet
what of our divine light,
the stars setting off their sails
with blazing brilliance --
trailblazers of space,
we had lost something so sacred
in our search for ourselves,
trying to figure our the meaning
of experience.
