SONS AND MOTHERS

Curled round you like a comma

We stood against the christmas tree.

The bend to enfold you

almost halved my stature.

Your face leaning into mine.

I had never thought

I wore my heart

so starkly on my sleeve

until the blood

coloured the baubles red.
