Destiny

Exhausted you seek out a place that brings shelter
The gutter an invitation but a doorway seems right
Cardboard for shelter, for the hours of darkness, you may call it
home
Comfortably settled you search for heaven, a sign given now would mean
so much
Rain comes the answer, bringing forth cold the enemy
White lightening relief but how long will it last?
Dreams punctuate a shattered slumber, but if only they could
assuage
Morning sun brings an alarm not requested
Avoidance of reality no longer option number one
Rise to your knees and pray to an available God
Who listens intently, but life still marches on
Food taken through charity, thirst harder but must be appeased
A smiling face at least, and no judgement shown
With a 'Thanks' and 'See you tomorrow', slip silently out into a void
called today
Place a beret on the ground, coppers for decoration
A penny whistle plays, it passes a proportion of time
Minute upon minute, hour upon hour, countless people pass, although
never so alone
Time lapse too slow, but crowds do gradually dwindle
Count out a silver fortune, allow a wry smile to yourself
Gather life's belongings, once again it is time to move on
Walking with head bowed you progress at no pace
Stumble into the last chance saloon
Landlord may I please have a tipple, surely you won't deny
'I will serve what you desire but perhaps an alternative should be
sought'
'A key to the door at the end of the bar, salvation awaits the man who
goes there'
The door marked 'Destiny'; a decision will need to be made
Contemplate on what life holds, stagnate or move on, the spin of a
coin
Scared of the unknown you break down in tears, the chance slips by and
one for the road
