Commedia Dell'Autumn Again, Columbine
Carmen-with-the rose-between-her-teeth
dances her golden afternoon.
On the softly stirring waters
of the greyglass pond
Pierrot rides duckback,
shattering beneath him
his iridescent images.
And look
There is Harlequin
floating his falling autumn leaves.
See where
willow tree tendrils trail
tender glistening veins of grass?
There she sits waiting
too late behind a veil of sunlit leaf,
yet still too soon
for Harlequin
flying his falcon-taloned wind.
