Nature vs Nurture
She begat the being that stands
Before her, alien
Yet all too familiar.
That which came from within
As nature dictated.
A child of love, born naked,
A blank page
That cried for knowledge.
What was written on that page
Was shrouded with care and morality,
Consideration and patience.
For the needs of the wanted
Was nurture implanted.
But the being now full grown
Is no mirror image
From within it burns
Not compassion but passionate
Discontent.
What kind of nurture
Could ignite such a fire?
What patience
Such anger
What joy such disfiguring depression.
Was it not due to action
But all up to chance?
So smother thy children for
Care counts for none.
Its fate that denies us our place
In the sun.
