I sucked up to fate when it struck

I sucked up to fate
when it struck,
when my father died,
I cried but stood up.
You don't bring me down!
When my child became a cripple
I denied, then I vowed
I'll fight on.
When my husband iced up
I drank the bitter cup.
I wisecracked: you cannot harm me
you shit.
Now I shy at the split
between me and the world.
Don't let them suck me in,
all the great beasts, not at least
the bad weather, the floods ,the storms ,
the gnawing worms in the state of the railways
the lazy days of asylum seekers,
political correctness, Brussel's intrusion
into our long established ways,
desillusion with the police,
pollution, chicken on conveyor belts,
GM crops, the rise of petrol prices,
the threatening death knell of the ozone layer
the climate change, the hospital bugs,
mad players of wars, thugs everywhere,
terrorism, Al Qaeda, the lot
It's all a plot to fuck me up.
Now I say: FUCK YOU!
I don't go along.
I'll ran off
with my lover
