dreaming others

dreaming others
brown eyes,
across the room,
a radiation of energy
passing through,
full of warmth and
cheer.
glowing smiles
and tenderness,
she speaks with others
joining inside.
some,
from different rooms;
others are unknown.
brown eyes meet each other,
one smaller than the other;
sad.
few smiles come from this gaze,
nearly invisible;
it is better not to be.
this one can’t open doors,
seeking refuge.
"I hate this," one says.
"me, too," says another,
standing with others
to watch as rooms turn
different shades of purple
and orange
and yellow,
lighting each door;
one is green and black
and blue.
no other words are spoken.
it will take time.
patient one must be,
and must tolerant be;
a day will come
to watch the sky turn
different shades of purple
and orange
and yellow,
turning into sunset
with long grass
and sounds of crickets
and frogs.
it will be someday,
sitting in a rocking chair,
feet propped up on a white banister.
the sun will set
and the stars will begin to shine.
