Distance from Abbey's Home

The depredation of her sadness;
Reflects how far she is from home...
Despite the transpirations of badness...
Oh, how she'll miss the days to come-
[How she missed the old leaking pipe behind the barn,
Pitter-pattering of raindrops against Lyle's window pane,
The gutter always clogged with autumn leaves and Melissa's yarn.
Bleats of billy goats that drove Daddy insane...
"Scullery Anne", who'd recount tales of her young romance,
The smooth, glassy lake; she shared her first kiss...
Birds that sung, in the summer air did she dance;
Oven baked cream-coloured brownies, Mrs. Henny would make,
Scented lemongrass she grew by the pebble walkway-
Birch trees; green as her cashmere sweater on spring's break-
Chocolate coffee Mummy used to make on winter's day...]
With a suitcase in one hand; Melissa's sunbonnet in the other-
Distance falling away from destiny; was it all meant to be?
Broken aspirations; they have each loved one another.
Striding along the lonely dirt road; for the first time, she's free.
