A Reason to Forget

There was once an old man who had a dog. He loved his dog very much and they were the best of friends. Just him and his faithful dog. One day while walking his dog the poor thing got run over by a car and died. The man buried the dog in his garden and wept for him. He would never again find a loving pet like his dog. A few days later he woke up one morning and heard scratches at his door. He opened it to find his pet dog alive and well, good as he's always been. Wagging his tail as he always does when excitedly seeing his owner. The old man was shocked but grateful. Soon the man and his faithful dog sunk back into their old routine. Playing catch, going for walks, the usual leisures the couple used to share. That was until, when walking his dog, the poor thing was struck by yet another car and died again. The old man cursed his luck. How could this be possible? How could this horrible event happen once more?
Again he mourned his pet dog and again he got on with his life. But a few days later his dog was at the door again, scratching to get in. The man was elated and was certain not to lose his companion this time. Luck was not on his side though. You guessed it; his dog was once again run over by a car and died while his owner walked it. The old man just could not understand. He thought to himself; what are the chances of this happening over and over again? Soon after a nurse visited the old man and he told her his tale. She understood it perfectly, even if the man couldn't. You see, the old man was suffering with Alzheimer's.
