POPPY PETAL WALK

High upon bright sunny beds
A carpet of scarlet poppies grew
Up they held their staring heads
Until at last they came into view
Although within that scarlet vest
No sweet perfume was found
Proud to think they were the best
Of all the flowers around
Within the red was spotted a white
Cast adrift amongst the many
The glint of sun reflected bright
It stood so tall and proud as any
Flint lay strong upon the ground
It's edges jagged but smooth to touch
A piece of history lost and found
This ancient stone could tell so much
A feather fluttered still to rest
Long parted from birds flight
It's owner soaring back to nest
On feathered wings to land in sight
Corn amongst the poppies lay
Ears of spike in early seed
Golden fields come what may
Harvest of cereal for mankinds need
Soft wool of sheep amongst the grass
How spun of natural fibre thread
Origins of spinning garments on mass
This ball of fluff from bleating bred
Scoop up all of this natures bounty
Stand embraced in shared delight
Upon this hill in Sussex county
A special walk for strength of sight

The white poppy is very
The white poppy is very unusual! Poppies are delightful, aren't they, and often there are such abundance. So many things to noitice as you walk, especially on a hill. Rhiannon
