Store windows parade their discounts
Glamorous models sign their busts, names
Neon letters, large numbers beckon pedestrians
but just give me the bottom line without the fanfare

Road signs scream their restaurant's specials
Rectangular spires blink the bundled savings
of cheap food at bargain prices
but just give me the blue plate deal without fanfare

Marquee boxes with movie banners glimmer
LED lights sparkle in the murky darkness
3D figures flare celebrity appeal
but please just the titles without fanfare

Spacious billboards tower o'er careening cars
Glossy-painted figures advertise their wares
with catchy phrases and alluring promises
but just give me the no frills products without fanfare

Street hustlers hover 'neath dank, club doors
pushing tickets into passerby hands
offering free drinks and cheap entertainment
but just give me a place in line without fanfare

All so off-putting and dazzling, and you turn away in case you get caught against your will, confused in your thinking. A bit like the 'music' and 'scents' in shops that can be overcoming and send you escaping out. Rhiannon

I can relate to this. The way the narrator does not want to opt out, simply wants the real deal without the garbage on top. The concluding verse works well.          Elsie

Rhiannow, glad the piece inspired an off-shoot poem. I get ideas, as well, from reading other poems.
