EXT. PARK -- DAY

WILLIAM THOMAS, 17, walks along the sidewalk, circling around the park.
BETH WILLIAMSON, 17, sneaks up behind WILLIAM. She puts her hands over
his eyes.

BETH: Guess who!

WILLIAM: Uh, I give up.

BETH: It's me silly!

BETH moves to his side.

WILLIAM: Oh, so it is. (Beat) How's it going?

BETH: Well, it's okay, so far.

WILLIAM: That's good. (Beat) Whatcha up to?

BETH: Nothing much. Just saw you walking, and decided to join
you.

WILLIAM (Smiles): Don't I feel special.

WILLIAM and BETH don't say anything for a while.

BETH: Penny for your thoughts.

WILLIAM: Just thinking about life.

BETH: Life? That's a deep concept.

WILLIAM: Tell me about it.

BETH: What aspect are you thinking about?

WILLIAM: The relationship part.

BETH: Ooh! Relationships!

WILLIAM groans. BETH laughs. No one talks for a few minutes, still
walking.

BETH (CONT'D): Anyone in particular you wish to have a relationship
with?

WILLIAM: Yeah.

BETH (Smiles): Who with?

WILLIAM: I don't want to tell you.

BETH: Why?

WILLIAM: Because, you'll laugh.

BETH: No I won't.

WILLIAM: Yeah you will.

BETH: No I won't. I promise.

WILLIAM (Beat): Fine.

BETH: Oh goodie!

WILLIAM: You.

BETH: What?

WILLIAM: You, I want to have a relationship with you.

BETH (Blushes; Sigh): Uh. William, there's something that I think that
I need to tell you.

WILLIAM: Yeah, I know, you aren't interested in a relationship right
now.

BETH: I wasn't going to say that.

WILLIAM: I know, but that's what you were thinking.

BETH: You speak as if you know that for a fact.

WILLIAM: That's because I've never had good luck with women.

BETH: Maybe that's because you haven't met the right one yet.

WILLIAM: Yeah, maybe.

BETH: I was going to tell you, before you interrupted me, that I've
wanted to have a relationship with you for a long time.

WILLIAM: Yeah, right. You're just saying that to make me feel
better.

BETH: No I'm not. I really want to go out with you.

WILLIAM: Really?

BETH: Yeah.
