A Shadow of A Man

A shadow of a man
Once said to me
"That being a shadow
was better than being free.
You see the sun,
It never hurts me. I'm protected.
Secure. Secured by my protector.
Shielded from light.
Shielded from love.
These barriers surround me.
They define me,
They confine me.
So now the sun beats down
Onto my back, but I cast no shadow.
