Swimmers

This where we were
On the front, the pier, the beach
But then the weather was here
Everything is gone now, replaced by rain
And although the sea is calm
There will be no swimmer's today.
The three of us I remember
All with differing ideas
Me wanting to get in desperately
You the same, but no, not the hair
And Glen, changing on the beach
Too cold, no towel, too cold.
In the afternoon as I walk
Reminders stir me, the restaurant
The coffee shop, and I have to stop myself
I will not be depressed by symbols
Because I have things to do, and what is more
You will return and we will sip coffee again.
From my window the sky is lit
The Pavilion I can see, as I realise
That everything has turned upside down
Lifestyle, location, occupation, friends and lover
But I will not fret at some imagined loss
As what is true remains through time and space.
