Before the speech commence, there was only silence and my dorm has no sound at all. The bed was still unmade, laptop on the desk, slightly disorganized and pebbles of crumbs were everywhere. As I was standing near the drawers, contemplating, it felt as if standing there could help me sooth my loneliness or rather the distinction between time while I think back to the days:
It was Friday, all doors are shut and locked, only voices of sad farewell replaces by solitude. I palmed the handle, peeking out the hallways but saw no one. My roommate lies comfortably on his bed and stared at his laptop. Deep drowsiness suddenly crept up, forcing me to sleep and I rest on my bed. My head lies comfortably on the white pillow, eyes dropping closed and my mind crawled back into the darkness.
I twist and turn, begging to be awake. I looked over my roommate's bed and figured that he's still there. However, he's gone with the blankets neatly made but his belongings are scattered underneath. I decided to wear my flip-flops and undress, then open the door . Something sharp and foul ram my senses, green waft of air that leads to the bathroom and I enter with quelling curiosity. Gurgling noises growling from the toilet and subsequent knocks drummed on the walls. I stood there paralyzed, eyes adjusting to the gloomy lights and gazed at the mirror, appeared an emancipated man. The skeletal figure copied my movement and cope with my expression, when suddenly ripping shriek shook my eardrums, it coming from behind the shower curtains. I took two steps back as it grunted, groaned, then utter silence. My body shivered when whispers touched my ear and the cool breath that brush my neck, sends tingles down my spine.
There was something fumbling with the curtains and made low hums, heavy breathing, replace by excited grunting. A disfigured hand creep out, it twitched, patted on the surface then point its finger directly toward me. And trails of blood trickled down my cheek, red tears splat on the floor. I stared at the mirror, large head with black sockets and its small mouth grinned with unknown sinister intent. My heart spikes with fear and out of my peripheral vision I saw a figure slither toward me, the peculiar eye catches my attention.
When my alarm clock rang, I turned it off and rests on my bed, sweats dripping from my head. My mind ponders on the dream obsessively until there's a knock. Drawing a breath of exhaustion, I stood up to open the door but no one was there. I step out and felt a paper underneath my foot, I picked it up to read:
Dear, Room 392
We have an unfortunate incident that occurred this early morning, a student felt unconscious on the bathroom and we advise all resident guests to forbid from using the bathroom until after the police have completed their investigation.
We'll report back to you as soon circumstance stabilizes. Thank you for you cooperation.
Signed by Resident Director.
I squinted at the words, feeling something familiar related to my dream but couldn't fetch what it was. Without a second thought, I closed my door and click of lock echoed throughout the hallway, then eerie humming filled the empty silence. The shallow opening of the bathroom reveals a giant eye glaring out and the crooked arm twitches to open the door.
