"I love you," he told her.
"Prove it," she said.
So he gave her a dozen roses,
Of a deepest, richest red.
"They're all right," she shrugged,
"But they'll soon wither away.
Do they represent your feelings;
That they'll go in a few days?"
So he gave her a box of chocolates.
And so she wouldn't complain,
He had bought her an assortment,
Of milk ones, white and plain.
She sighed and folded her arms,
"What a nasty thing to do.
I'm trying to watch my figure.
How inconsiderate of you."
So he bought her a new dress,
She said she didn't like the style.
He changed it for something else,
But she said the colour was vile.
He put up a banner with coloured balloons,
Stating his feelings were more than just keen.
"Oh, really," she huffed, "How childish can you get?
That's got to be the most silliest thing I have seen."
"What do you want?" said the man,
"My love I've tried to prove.
But everything I try to do,
You always disapprove."
"You'll just have to keep trying," she said,
"Like every time before."
"Oh, push off," he replied,
"I don't love you anymore."
