A Matter of Energy by J.B. Pravda
"He's been in and out of this febrile state for three days now, Herr
Doktor" was the plaintive echo within Jung's left brain; his opposite
cranial chamber, however, sensed a far deeper malaise, through which
his brilliant friend had struggled, only to emerge Cassandra-like and,
therefore, alone.
They had called him mad, deranged, young Professor Pauli, this was
well-known to the empathetic Dr. Jung---he too had been ridiculed by
his peers for his curious confluence of East &; West in his delvings
into the human psyche. His still nascent theories were steeped in
Buddhistic notions of the luminous emptiness at the heart of all
components of the universe---that the world as interpreted by the five
senses and their processor, the brain, was but an illusion, a dream
invented by these constructive prisoners of time and space, hence: 'I'
and 'you' are trapped in a false duality, the maze of maya!
It was, then, with utmost zeal that he rushed to the bedside of his
recently cuckolded, suffering patient with a stunning letter:
"&;#8230;&;#8230;..and I have, therefore found your latest
quantum formulae to be on a level that is first rate. With warm
affection, A. Einstein.
As Jung concluded, tears of Beethovian Ninth symphonic joy removed the
cast of pall upon their newly rejoicing hearts.
Raising his moistened head off the pillows, Pauli whispered: "You see,
my friend, matter, unmasked, is merely energy!"
