Chapter 3, Close Shave
'Yes!' exclaimed Ruby, 'I can't believe we managed it!'
'Big deal, it was only doing a bit of graffiti and a few robberies. How
were we to know that the wallet had two hundred pounds in?' replied
Nathan, even though he was smiling.
'We did it, I know. But now we've got to go!' said Ariala. And she
started to run. The rest heard it to, a split second later. The police
were after them. They ran, but the police caught them up on every bend
'Split up!' yelled Cy, and the boys went off in one direction the
girls in another. The police car raced after the boys. Another one was
soon racing along, so Ariala found a loose board at the side of the
house, and pulled Ruby in as well. The police car continued to drive
down the street. The girls held their breath as the car passed slowly
up the street again, looking for them.
'Do you think we should scour this street now, or in the morning?'
asked one man.
'In the morning, I've got loads of paperwork over that missing two
hundred pounds,' said the other one. The car drove away. Ariala looked
at Ruby. This was Ruby's first close shave. She had only been in the
group for two months. Ruby was a paper white, and her eyes were as wide
and shocked as an innocent prisoner.
