A-little like distant strangers.
Trees passed were like candles, lifeless without flame,
The river gurgled flowing like molten metal between grass and
concrete.
Will we get married I asked?
She smiled and did not respond.
I kissed her head tasting soft metallic tears,
My mind was a mess, my heart beating fast.
Do I mean anything to you I asked again?
Her eyes said it all, a look of distrust and pain.

I slumped to the floor my veins pumping ice.

Only bird song almost orchestral seemed to wipe away some of the
gloom.
One thing is for certain,
My heart is crumbling could it ever be repaired?
Images of her fly through my brain like moths,
I drift into desperation&;#8230;
