E: THE BLACK KNIGHT

BLACK NIGHT
The armor was heavy my shield lay by,
In the saddle I was ready to win the fight or die.
Crowds of people cheered the black night on,
I eyed up my opponent his lance I focussed on.
As the Herald's signaled the joust to start,
I nudged my stead foreword my heart beating fast.
My horse snorted pounding the ground,
Mentally I blocked out the noise from the cheering crowd.
As we neared our weapons held ready,
I aimed for the ribs my grip unwavered steady.
A quick shuffle in my saddle I avoided his lance,
But mine hit home with a satisfied glance.
Off the horse he toppled his eyes open wide,
The cheering increased as I saluted with pride.
The King looked on wandering who is this champion in black,
With a coat of arms of an Eagle embossed on his back.
If only he knew I was his son and heir to the throne,
After exile for many years I had returned disguised, and alone.
