Ghost Town
My body twitches as I drift out of my dreams. The darkness awaits me
and the silence of the atmosphere comforts me.
Warm and snug cuddled into my soul mate, I watch over him as he sleeps.
Grumbling and twitching and expressing the odd smile, I giggle and find
great amusement looking at his sleepy face.
My eyes catch the hands of the ghastly clock, oh how mother will be
angry if I do not appear by the next tick tock.
Our bodies tired and weak, we make our way to the door and embark on
the long and bitter cold journey ahead.
All about us we are surrounded by darkness, our eyes sleepy, we see
frightening shadows appear, then suddenly disappear.
Our ears sensitive, we mistake the sound of bustling leaves with
ghostly children's laughter.
The tall glow of orange lights reach up to infinity. From the corner of
my eye, I notice a flicker; a street lamp is going out, leaving a mass
of darkness.
Sprinkles of glitter like stars spread like wild fire across the desert
sky.
The ghostly wind whales like banshees in our ears, we hold tightly unto
one another.
A Street once filled with sounds of children's play and the screeching
of brakes belonging to cars, now deserted, not a being in sight, only
those of the spirit world.
Skies so rich with blue and cotton like fluffy clouds.
The trees alive with groups of children swinging back and fourth. Now,
with the darkness upon them, they stand like haunting spirits. Branches
look frightening, with their long knobbly arms and pokey claw like
fingers.
The journey now at an end, relieved for myself, but feared for my
lover, as he must re-take, the path through the Ghost Town.
