Hard Choices

I'd rather be here with real friends,
Modest dreams, real troubles and mind,
Than bear the weight of society's trends,
On a slippery slope, malequipped to climb,
I'd rather have the freedom, thanks,
To just walk away and leave,
Than fight among unreal ranks,
And lose my right to be me,
I'd rather be someone I think I am,
Than someone I'm forced to be,
A did-not-start or an also-ran,
Not someonething, just free,
Why can't I be immune and blind,
A blissful unaware,
Like you and your clones who follow behind,
On a leash that's leading nowhere?
