How long can you hide the truth

How long can you hide the truth
Behind the dark clouds of your eyes?
And, how long can you hold within
The thunder that rolls, and strains
The cracks and seams of your soul?
How long, how long?
These are the fears,
The shadows of trees
Of a wind-wracked copse -
Forbidding.
And without shield or sword
Dare you enter there unbidden?
Dare you pass through
To where you need to go,
If you know not what is abroad, or if you do?
Is that what you see
A shimmer of lights in a habour safe,
Or the wreckers' lamps set to pierce
And splinter the hull of your being
On the cruelty of deception?
