I now wonder why you gave me
This envelope of images
Captured instants
From another age
They are carefully dated, captioned
Close to proof
That You were ever one
I've never seen them together,
It's all so long ago
I guess order equals control
but it didn't work
I don't know these people,
They smile for the camera
One, pup cradled in his arms
Must have been on the notice board
Or caught between puppy teeth
For holes perforates your face
I can't read your expression,
I don't know you
I've seen these situations before,
Separately
You, long haired, pint in hand
Fags and lighter on the table
My father has given up
This man grasps mates I've never met
At least his dress sense has improved
You're young, nineteen, happy
Dog lead, clasped tight above your hips
Your hand splayed on his ribs
When I look close,
A wedding ring
Your smiles are too wide for camera
He must have made a joke,
My mother once laughed at my fathers jokes
He looks too young
But the back bears '78
Married a year, nine left then me
How much you've changed
I found a playing card once
Scribbled on was, "penny smells"
And in a different hand
"So does Andy
I can picture that
