Heist
The middle door slid open with a gentle ping,
I silently entered the top security wing.
I could see down the corridor a silver lift door,
Red alarm tracer's spider webbed the floor.
Pressing a button on a flashing electronic card,
Red alarm tracers vanished I was no longer barred.
Generators hummed like ships engines near heating pipes,
I tripped out the current of the red security lights.
Inserting a key into the vault lock,
There was a comforting click as the door unlocked.
At least two boring hours must have passed,
But now my bag was full at long last.
Glass cutter removes the ground window pain,
I slip out quietly into the nights rain.
Far away I hear the police sirens wine,
My crime discovered but the loot was mine.
Catching a plane abroad in the sun,
I escape a jewel thief forever on the run.
