Jim Dandy Day

Blurring past the legally posted
Speed limit signs, indistinct
as the eastern glow of sunlight rises
An atomic ballburst, staged in bleeding red
Spelunking striplights sharply cutting through the theatered scene
stealer fog
Flowing streams of roadshow traffic
Fast and furious speedfreaks, lunatics
Spearheading North to Leesburg and Amphetamine racing South to
Albany
Rushing like redneck robber barrons along five-lane busybodied state
highway 19
The rank and file of hurried people
Mutual grooving in opposing directions
Could be school or maybe work,
while me, I'm simply going home
After dropping off my grumbling sleepy daughter for her 7:20 French
class
One can but wonder why
Her scheduled lessons have to start
this darn early in the morning
I listen to the radio station rocknrolling
ZZTop is singing lustfully bout the shack outside Lagrange
Not quite my type of place, but each to his or her own view
Perverted, gay or straight
A plethora of flexible opinions about
What is sex and why we love
With clanging keys in hand
I unlock my creaking squeaky door
Expecting muzzled peace and restrained silence
I'm amazed to have some lasting quiet
No interrogations for the shortest span of time
Justified as an authentic New York minute
Our retreiver lab mix puppy B.D.
has finally found her bona fide barky voice
A lovable loud-mouthed mutt
My early warm-hearted warning signal,
An alert alarm system in the making
Another jim-dandy day has just begun
