Joys of Writing

Pen to paper, ideas flow,
A masterpiece I'll have to show!
At least, that's what I'd like to say
Each time I mail my work away.
But that isn't what it's all about-
Publication or some pay-out;
I write because I love the craft,
Sharing poems, stories and thoughts I have.
If I can make a person smile,
Or simply sit and think awhile
With words I pen for folks to read,
Well, THAT's the best reward for me!
When children laugh at silly prose,
That's success, each writer knows;
And when a verse can touch the heart,
I know to leave unchanged that part.
A child's prayer can make the day
Of any parent in a way
That says to me I wrote it well,
And that's a prayer I will not sell.
Oftentimes, I'll give such gifts
As prayers and poems that give a lift
To someone's spirit or bad mood
(I love to see a mood improved!).
The joy I find in writing is
Sharing thoughts of happiness;
Though other feelings play a part,
The words I choose are from the heart.
