Judas Explains Himself

Judas: (Stepping forward, addressing the audience) You wanna know
why I did it? What's it matter? You won't believe me. And you would've
done the exact same thing if you were in my position. Mark my words you
would have. You know&;#8230;the problem in society today is that you
all don't set goals for yourselves. You're all too damn idealistic,
each and every one of you. All you do is dream. What's the use in that?
Huh? It gets you nowhere. Nowhere! Dreaming is a sin, in my opinion:
dreaming leads to lust, lust leads to yearning, yearning leads to
greed, and greed leads to all this corporate America nonsense. Maximum
product, minimum moral responsibility. They're ruining your country.
I'm telling you, they are. Yes, dreaming is a sin, no doubt. That's all
He ever did: dream. I never thought a man could dream so much. He must
have thought Himself out of every good idea He had. It was enough to
drive any normal human being completely insane. I don't know how I
lasted this long. And I'm not sorry. No sir. I, for one, am glad to be
rid of Him, and trust me, we're all better off because of what I did.
You might not think that now, but you're not in my place. You didn't
have to live with His constant tales of what could be and what might
happen if. All that idealism, it's just too hard to take. So don't pass
judgment on me. I know what you're thinking, "sold Him out for some
lousy silver coins, that little, no good&;#8230;" He wasn't even
worth the money. I would have done it for free. I really would have,
but&;#8230;I mean hey, if I can make some profit while I'm at it,
all the better, right?
