Life is for Living

'History is bunk' said Henry Ford,
Or so it is often said.
Whether he did or whether he didn't
Isn't debated in Club Med.

Living life without a care
Particularly for the past
Is easily attained on a salary
That allows one to live very fast.

Let the captains and the kings depart
Let empires rise and fall
Let's forget the victors and the vanquished
And whether our leader is short or tall.

Only the lotus eaters really know
That the past is no longer with us
All that matters is the present
So please, let's not make a fuss.

'Strawberry fields for ever'
So the Beatles sang.
Throw away all that learning
And live life with a bang.

We'll not be here tomorrow
Today is all there is.
History is much too dull
And totally lacking in fizz.

Without a beginning or an end
Life just goes on and on
A bit like Old Man River
But we'll never be put upon.

So lets drink to the everlasting now
And enjoy it while its here.
Put away all your books
And keep your appointments clear.
