The cat and the mouse

The mouse mat is dented
The cat's paws were there
In remote corners
Remain traces of hair

Behind the cat's photo
A happier cat shines
With a smile on her face
She is writing these lines

At least I think so
Or why do the shadows of the leaves
Produce a contented white cat
Which my sadness relieves

The computer mouse is failing
I can hear the white cat laughing
For she is no longer ailing
Only the mouse is now wailing
