From One Side Only

I built a most colossal bridge
It spanned the ocean blue
Thousands of miles it reached
To touch a dream so true.
Paved it was, with my full heart
The soul's threads of suspension
Not even the winds of time
Could sway the solid intention.
Into the night I laboured long
To gap the hope of love's desire
No burden too heavy, nor obstacle great
Only strength of self to take me higher.
Shining as brilliant as universal glow
He proudly stood..my love, my friend
On the other side of inspiration
And closer came the journey's end.
I did not notice, whilst I was building
That ax he held in his other hand
For just as I stretched out to take it
He severed the last remaining strand.
To the depths of the sea my bridge did sink
Never forgotten, but forever lonely
These days I build my bridges
Not.. from one side only.
