Poor Little Men

When you finally meet the one you love,
Who knows whom she desires?
Rejection stands in your face,
You resign yourself to your fate,
But my heart goes on in silent misery,
Like a fire running out of fuel,
Hanging on to its last embers of dying ashes,
Because my heart knows that love is inevitable,
And hearts can never lie.
If only you knew how much I love you,
How much I would cherish you,
How much I would sacrifice,
How much I am ready to give for you.
But my heart goes on in silent misery,
Like a fire running out of fuel,
Hanging on to its last embers of dying ashes.
Impressing you is my desire,
My great exploits seem like boastful lies to you,
I would expect you to trust me,
But I appear shallow in your eyes.
My heart bleeds deeply,
It's no surprise.
When I share something with you,
Try to make you laugh, to lighten the mood,
My efforts to amuse you,
Are justly rewarded with scorn,
Am I just an object to pass time to you?
Or another of your lapdogs, which you pick and drop at will?
That is not what I want to be,
Not what I was brought up to believe.
A heart is so small,
It's such a fragile thing,
There is only so much it can take,
Before it shatters to pieces.
My heart is long past that stage,
I walk with pieces of it piercing through my mind.
I lost my sanity,
In trying to get you,
Because I asked for love,
And I got you.
I'll stop trying to be something I'm not,
I usually don't try to make people laugh,
But I am such a kidder when I am near you.
My mind tells me to stop acting a fool,
But then I see my dreams in your eyes,
And your eyes in my dreams,
I am a fool madly in love,
And I admit it.
I tried my best,
But my heart lost the battle,
And with it the war,
That is life,
And that is why I am not complaining.
My heart goes on in silent misery
Like a fire running out of fuel,
Hanging on to its last embers of dying ashes.
Rejected I stand,
All alone,
That girl over there is fine,
Gotta go.
