Reverberations

Reverberations through the walls,
Echoes through the ages,
Nothing helps to quell the sound
Of misery; infinite and unending.
To the desert the snake has crawled
And resides within this Eastern palace,
With goodwill on its lips
And brutality in its practices.
Reverberations through the walls,
Reminders of the many dead;
Screaming, tortured into the abyss,
But the living envy them still.
Though they’re gone, they’ve escaped
Far from the grasp of evil hands.
Their memories are an ominous sign:
Condemning the snake to death!
