I wrote her a letter
Detailing in lilac ink
The reasons
Why it had taken so long
To return the pistachio green shoes
That I stole from the party,
Neatly stacked amongst other ugly pairs
By the front door
Unlabelled and unloved.
I wrapped them in starched brown paper and string,
Carefully inscribed the return address,
Just in case they wouldn't fit
Through her door,
Just in case they ended up on
The wrong street,
In case they decide they like my feet better
Or miss the coral skirt they suited,
I neatly marked in black ink
My return address
On the soles.
