Some Little Ants Have Stolen All My Energy

They crawled into my ear, one shadowy dark night,
Each one a little soldier, a miniature hoplite.
Waking up, I realised, with a little fright,
Some little ants had stolen all my energy.
They all crepy down my back, and went into my belly.
A legion of small cynics, led by a Machiavelli.
They travelled to my stomach, to last night's vermicelli.
Some little ants have stolen all my energy.
Each tiny ant wears obsidian breastplate,
Each tiny ant carries twice its weight,
Each tiny ant takes a pearl of carbohydrate.
Some little ants are stealing all my energy.
Why else would I be stuck here in my bed?
Why else would I have this pain within my head?
Why else would I have a queasy stomach, bloodshot eyes, an aching knee,
a bruised elbow, be half covered by my blanket having falling asleep in
my clothes and be filled with a deep desire to be dead?
Some little ants have stolen all my energy.
Hmmmm...
I think I'll have a slice of toast.
