The house had light, which it kept
safe in the soil in the garden
to protect it from burglars
when no one was home
to move it around.
It was like a flat,
grown from seeds, but bigger
to make itself feel braver
and to scare the people
that it didn’t like away.
The house would keep a room,
full of light, in its roof.
When no one else was looking
it would flash the room off and on -
a warning sign that passed the time.
Still. The house got lonely.
