Summer Dreaming
Walking in the sleet blown street
In that morning time when you are no-one
Half awake, less than half aware
Not yourself, not yet a worker, a by-passer, a passer by.
A blue, summer bright, shining
Some pink, fushcia blush
'Viper's Bugloss' my passing by heart said
My heart which did not belong to work
Pulled out of sleep to walk, wake in this cold grey street
Thought of the flowers amongst the weeds in my french
garden
Wine warmed under the broad Lot Valley sky.
Not here, this time of day, this time of year
Where I am no-one
When the year is not itself
Passing by between winter and spring.
I squinted and bent my head, to be sure
Ah..I knew ..a wrapper,chocolate bar perhaps,
Nestled in the sleet, in the winter grey grass
But that moment when my heart said 'Beauty'
Remained
Even now when my brain said 'only rubbish'
But as I walked on, the disappointment,
born out of cynicism, swept down through the spaces in the buildings
around me
Why did I look closer?
I shut my eyes and imagined summer.
