Not a Sherlock Holmes tale
Not a night vision mask
Not a ride on an Eskimo sleigh
Not a mirror from a cheap circus stall
Not a long length of deep draping velvet
Not a new novel, hungrily ingested
Not a night that never ends
Not a trans Atlantic flight
But the view from the footplates
As the train clumsily manouevers
Secretly and stealthily
Forward tilting and jolting and jeering
With passengers ensconced
In idle chatter
Not I
For this needs no bigger thrill
This dangling from the footplate
This awe inspiring vision of endless beauty
This could not be any more real and alive and vibrant
If you invented it
