Trubble with Hubble

Edwin Hubble had some trouble
As he peered into deepest space
He nearly cried when he realised
The answer was in front of his face.

The spectroscope lines were showing
Huge clouds that absorbed all light
But this was not consistent
With what textbooks said was right.

Given some thought, the great man said
"I admit it does sound whacky
But those absorption lines, I must confess,
Were due to smoke from my pipe tobaccy".
