when i look upon america i do not see god,
more a fat man sat polishing his gun

when americans held hands and blinked tears up to god
i did not see god refected in their gaze.

i did not here god in their song
just i do not hear god in a imam's call to prayer
or call to arms.

surely if god walked america
he'd have shook sugar in the rivers,
spread butter on its hills.

if god loved america he would not
have made them sit through baseball games,
