Don't hold the bow like a blade, she said
You've seen too much Nigel Kennedy.
Keep this arm curved, this crooked
Or there's too much force in the melody.
All you need remember is this here's a sharp;
Two finger-widths a step;
And so: I want you to play me Twinkle Little Star
In the pentatonic.
Naturally the showboat,
I ask her if I could play in myxoldian;
She laughs.
Laying down three fingers
Wondering where did the bloody frets go,
I bow one rasping note, squealing like an interrupted pig.
I start to sweat.
The lesson over,
She beams at me as I'm blushing
And takes me in her arms
Asking for a lesson I could teach.
