Vision On

Those pretty plastic blooms
That I put in your room
Are part of my new broom
A trivial means to an inevitable end
Though you won't know this much
As long as you don't touch
We'll try and keep
The bad stuff away and just pretend
Then we settle down to stare
At the purposefully distracting glare
Of television. On the basis that it will
Take us somewhere out of ourselves
Who is this team I see?
Dancing in front of me?
I say it's Arsenal FC
As your mind dips in and out of slumber
I tell you they're the best
That they are on a global quest
To conquer all before them
Though you are not really listening
Current stuff is hard though
To deal with on a daily basis
If only we could just shut it all away
And bury it in "no need to know" spaces
Then we could retreat inside ourselves
Travel into pain free zones
Converse in non-agonising tones
And stay in previously unreachable places
But at some point, we would have to go back
To face the real world
And deal with all the current stuff
That makes life terminally unbearable
And though we would be given a map
We would take our time and amble back
To find that nothing's really changed
And that Crystal Palace FC
Are still crap
