Watching a kiss

The water fountain was behind you,
And you eclipsed it when you kissed.
I felt a sudden thirst whistle in my throat,
Speckled as it was with the memory
Of your lips. Her eyes were hopeful,
And I flinched at the music, noticing
Only how I tripped in my expectant hurry
To billow out, skirts flying, into the mist.
