I ran across a field of buttercups,
holding tight a dream in my arms.
The sun was smiling down on us,
but when I looked again, the dream was gone.
Tears began to lace my distraught face
as I spun around and around.
The buttercups made cathrine wheels,
but when I looked again, they all were gone.
Gone were their happy golden nodding heads,
in their place crawled a field of thorns.
The sun blinked once and vanished too
and this dream of a dream I'd had, was gone.
I opened my eyes to dusty skies,
the sun was a tarnished tin ball.
I turn my head and look beside me,
without me even knowing, you had gone.
