Hobbies of "Rich and the Famous"

When I was a child I loved collecting stamps, coins, shells and even stones (not the precious ones but those we find scattered all around us) of different sizes, shapes, and colours. You may laugh at me “Stones!!!” Yes I loved collecting them. Why not and so as to say I still treasure my little collection in our attic. My parents taught me in my school days that a collector of stamps is known as a philatelist, coins a numismatist, and shells a conchologist, but I’m sorry don’t know what a collector of stones is known as ??? Do the young generation of these days know about them? Thankfully if they learnt it in school.

Well that was my childhood and my little hobbies which I shared with my friends. Days have passed and so have the years I have grown up and with time the hobbies too have grown. To elaborate a bit more the hobbies which I had are no more in demand these days. The children are no more interested in old and the dirty. They are born in a more advanced world so their hobbies too differ. Playing video games and owning play station/Xbox is the pride of a school boy. And if we talk of an adolescent of the present he has the hobby of photography and owns the latest digital SLR zoom lens camera. And when he grows a little older he owns the best sports cars available in the market.

I sit back and ponder there is no match with the hobbies which I had compared with the children of today. Whatever it is but I’m still happy when I take out my old collection and hold them in my hands. It seems I’m back in the old days when I sat with my friends and exhibited my pride possession to them.

Little did I know then that hobbies too would become costly and will only belong to the “Rich and the Famous”.
