Father

In the distance of your mind
There stands a lonely man,
A lone figure standing proud and tall.
You gave your love,
You gave him all,
Now your shattered idol starts to fall.
He's not who you thought him to be.
Father,
Why did you lie to me?
Why did you pretend to be who you weren't to me?
You've let me down in the cruellest way.
Father,
I loved you, I worshipped you.
Now you're not the perfect man
I always thought you to be.
You've brought my dreams crumbling down,
My heart you've stepped into the ground;
The tears I spill, my battered soul,
No comfort have I found.
I grew up to love you,
Those facts I cannot change,
Though you're not what I expected,
My love for you remains.
Father,
Maybe you're not Santa Clause
Or a magic, mystery man,
But, father,
You're still my hero,
You're still daddy to me.
