Procession of the Equinox
Sluggishly shrugging, the world was shaken from the deep sleep of a long Winter.
In frantic advance, scores of paper-thin wings beat and echoed through the barren air,
the sound of the Spring Court's fluttering march crisp against the cold.
The Bringers of Light came first
to break the clouds and relax the earth of Winter's maladies.
With the frost in remission, the stage was set
and the Greater Fae took their role in the rites.
Like an ancient evergreen among blossoming perennials,
the Spring Duchess, Vernal Sovereign, Herald of the Summer Queen,
stood full and strong in the midst of her eager underlings,
bringing with her the ambrosial perfume of mignonette flowers
and the mellow musk of lindens.
Swaying in floral elegance, she flowed as a vibrant swirl
of shimmering greens and robin's egg blues,
commanding the bustle with a voice sweet as harp strings.
With the Bringers of Life she roused the dormant forest
and woke the creatures with loving warmth,
coaxing buds from trees and seedlings from soil.
She joined in the chorus of the Bringers of Sound,
an arioso of resonant tones and cadences
conducting the birds and crickets and cicadas
in their spirited song of vitality and promise.
With pride they basked in the commotion,
their fertile promenade restless and joyful,
gestating in preparation for the impending reign of Summer.
