A Mother's Love

A MOTHER'S LOVE
My son died today
And I watched him die slow
Nailed high on his cross
Why he died, I don't know
They called him 'Redeemer'
And walked, where he lead
Then, in faith, they betrayed him
And watched, while he bled
My son, he was born
As my pride and my joy
A gift blessed by God
Of a new baby boy
How long that now seems
Thirty three years in all
But as I look on him now
I feel my tears start to fall
It was not all that long
That he came into sight
Giving hope then to all
As to the dark comes the light
He spoke many tongues
As he walked through the land
All his words were spoke simply
So all could plain understand
In the time that he preached
From the day he begun
I took pride in his life
For simply; he was my son
He was nothing, but innocent
He only spoke words of love
But his words led to Calvary
And he hangs now above
He was betrayed first by Peter
While all his friends just stood by
Then, by Pilate, was sentenced
To crucifixion, to die
He was scourged first by whip
A cruel crown made of thorn
Was then forced on his head
As to a King, to adorn
He was led to the steps
And displayed where he stood
To the crowd who had gathered
Who now bayed for his blood
In defence, he said nothing
As he stood there to wait
On whatever outcome was judged
That would decree him his fate
Pilate spoke loudly
"I give a chance now for peace
I find this man is not guilty
Do you wish his release?"
"If so, then Barabas
Will die in his place
For murder committed
Decide, by your grace"
"Release my boy, Jesus"
I screamed out my voice
But the crowd was incensed
As they called for their choice
"Barabas, Barabas"
The crowd, they all sang
"Free him, let him live
And then, let Jesus hang"
My mind was in turmoil
How could this all be
Was this scene really happening
Were all insane, except me
My boy had done nothing
And now he would die
Just one word repeated
It was the single word "Why"
My son was then sentenced
And as the crowd bayed for blood
He looked round him slowly
Surveying all, where he stood
I shouted his name
He looked my way, and saw
A single smile creased his lips
And then away he was bore
The cross, which he'd hang
Was rough-hewn from a tree
As it was tied to his back
The crowd screamed out their mad glee
As he started to walk
Ropes bit into his skin
The tears washed my face
I could do nothing for him
He was kicked, punched and whipped
And was spat in the face
As he carried his cross
To the mount of disgrace
I tried to go to him
But was kept well at length
By soldiers, whose duty
Was to use their full strength
On the way to the hill
As his sweat ran in streams
I caught a glimpse of his face
It was a nightmare of dreams
For the wounds from the thorns
Had sunk deep, for to stain
As the blood flowed unchecked
Creating a red mask of pain
Finally, he staggered
His legs gave, and fell
And as I looked, the whip cracked
Creating more pain than hell
With an effort, he raised himself
Showing no fear
But exertion and blood loss
Were now costing him dear
The crowd was all round me
As in to it, I sank
I barely could move
As they pressed, rank on rank
By the time I was free
We had come out the town
And, as streets now gave way
To the land all around
I ran up the hill
And what I witnessed to see
Was a sight to remain
Until death comes to me
For the summit was reached
And, laid there on the ground
Was my love, my sweet Jesus
Then the hammer did sound
As the steel pierced his hand
Jesus screamed with the pain
Only seconds then passed
When the steel pierced again
The process continued
I watched him near die
Then his eyes, they refocused
As the cross was hauled high
His breath was drawn heavy
Every move was pure pain
I saw him look down at me
As the clouds shed their rain
I don't know what time passed
For I prayed as I knelt
Asking God to protect him
With every thought that I felt
I felt angry, betrayed
For yet, I could not see why
What on earth was the reason
That my son had to die
The blood had stopped flowing
As my son raised his head
His lips, cracked and caked
Formed the words that he said
"My dear heavenly father
I come now to you
Forgive them their sins
They know not what they do"
A long, final breath
And his eyes seemed to dim
His head, fell and sagged
As the life-force left him
My darling was gone
And nothing else could replace
All the joy and the love
I beheld in his face
The soldiers, they helped
As we lowered him down
And escorted the body
To the far side of town
In a crypt, he was placed
Washed and dressed in a shroud
I kissed him; the last time
His death made me proud
For in life, he'd shown grace
Now in death, he would lie
He had believed in his faith
So I thought then, would I
I would teach, as he'd teached
As he'd lived, I would live
I would love, as he'd loved
With everything I could give
I then finally saw
As my mind came to be
That this earth does behold
More than just what we see
A better life does await us
For our time on this earth
Is spent to prepare us
For everything that we're worth
So, believe you, or not
Without first, the proof
Everything will be yours
If you can trust the truth
And if you believe
Then I say this to you
Everything that I've told you
Will surely come true
